The Rome Hotel Ivanhoe is situated within Monti, which is the oldest and biggest section of Rome and as such offers the most distinct overview of the city's many architectural periods. Having gone through much rebuilding and alteration around 200 years ago, it still retains a wonderful ambience where you can enjoy ancient history hand-in-hand with the more "modern" additions. Its diverse nature is what gives it its wonderful atmosphere and character.
Many of Monti's residents declare the status of being 'more Roman' than those living in other districts, and are extremely proud of the fact – they even used to speak in their own form of Rome's vernacular!
Monti is best explored on foot due to its slender streets and "hilly" disposition – don't let this put you off, you don't want to miss all the nooks and crannies which would simply fly past unexplored if you were on wheels! Suburra, where the Hotel Ivanhoe Rome is located, is a part of Monti, and has its own history.
For a start, it's where Julius Caesar grew up. It was in ancient times a most disreputable area of the city, known for its red light district and the unsavoury characters who came with it. Over the centuries it has re-established itself as a destination and has now become one of the most desirable and cosmopolitan sectors of Rome!
